OLYMPIC AND WORLD CHAMPION TO STAR IN JWJC
by Michael Tomalaris

Athens Olympic gold medallist and multiple world champion Stephen
Wooldridge OAM will temporarily return to cycling after agreeing to take
part in the annual Johnny Warren Jamberoo Classic charity ride.

A member of Australia's all-conquering team pursuit combination that ruled
the velodrome from 2002 to 2006, Wooldridge says he's looking forward to
the ride which raises monies for Lifehouse At RPA The Chris O'Brien Cancer
Centre.

Wooldrodge first came to the international spotlight as an elite endurance
rider when winning gold at the 2002 UCI track world championships in
Copenhagen in 2002.

Perhaps his most memorable career moment was when he combined with Graeme
Brown, Brett Lancaster, Brad McGee and Stuart O'Grady to win the Olympic
gold medal in the team pursuit by downing Great Britain in Athens 2004.

Wooldridge joins a long list of cycling personalities who have taken part
in the 100 kilometre journey from Loftus, in Sydney's southern suburbs to
the quaint village of Jamberoo on the NSW south coast.

They have included Commonwealth Games champion Ben Kersten, Olympic road
racer Rochelle Gilmore, European-based professionals Graeme Brown and Matt
White, and world record downhill skier Michael Milton.

Several hundred cyclists have already expressed their interest by
registering online for an event which has traditionally catered for
"cyclists with passion".

Riders from northern and western Sydney, and as far away as Canberra are
expected to line-up at the Southern Cross Cycling Club at Waratah Park,
Loftus on January 3, 2010 for the journey down the coast.
